The story of how “The Gecko Stole Christmas”…

Hi, my name is Stacy. Anyone who knows me, knows I thrive in environments that are challenging, competitive, social and creative. To me, Horizon has been that place. My job involves daily analysis and I’ve made lifelong friends through the different teams I’ve been a part of. But most importantly, I’ve been able to show my creative side and just be myself.

In December last year I got an email that the agency was holding a holiday cube decorating contest. I knew I had to partake – for a few reasons:

  1. I had decorated my cube the year before with some casual lights, a stocking & some ‘jolly’ things
  2. Because I had decorated the year before, I couldn’t let my team down – they were all telling me to submit
  3. My last name is Jolly so holiday decorating is in my blood

I had noticed Anthony’s office was decked out in pictures of coworkers doing “Elf Yourself.” It looked amazing but I did not want to lose… And I love a little friendly competition.

I only had two days to decorate my desk but couldn’t think of anything that would outdo Anthony’s incredible submission. I finally thought of, “How the Gecko Stole Christmas.” With a little help of my friends around the office, I created a video of me signing “Where Are You Christmas?” from “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,”  submitted my pictures and won the competition.

I would like to think it was because of my cubicle decorating masterpiece but apparently me dressing up as “Cindy Lou Who” was the icing on the cake.

Don’t get me wrong; yes, I found pleasure in winning and can now add “Creative Holiday Director” to my résumé. But the best part about it all was seeing how much it cheered people up and put them in the holiday spirit. It also allowed me to express myself and bond with my coworkers in a fun way.

Horizon Life means… jolly times.
